"Summer was on the way; Jem and I awaited it with impatience. Summer was our best season: it was sleeping on the back screened porch in cots, or trying to sleep in the tree house;..."
- Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
I love watching people recharge in the sunshine. I am very fortunate to live in Cornwall where many people’s lifestyle choices are in tune with the climate and coastline.
Cornwall is a very popular holiday destination for the reasons above and wherever in the world you may travel to for a vacation – taking rest is very important.
Living in a popular tourist destination, I see the pressure people place themselves under in those two weeks, ‘must have a good time’, ‘must treat myself’, ‘must relax as I don’t have another break booked now for 6 months’.
Taking time for you is essential, rest is required and as a society, we are not so evolved in how to nurture, practice and communicate the importance of rest.
So instead of leaving your occasional holiday and weekends as downtime, practice the daily technique of Vedic Meditation and top up your energy on a daily basis. That build up of rest will keep you recharged throughout the year. So, when you do have a long break, you are much more grounded, rested and at ease with your downtime.
Enjoy your holidays this year, wherever you find yourself and no matter the time of year you prefer to holiday – I hope you have a lovely time.
